A strict "story" song, ALL THE YEARS charts two lover's relationship throughout their lives from childhood to old age. It was meant as a song with a certain amount of "theatrics" and "drama" to it with a splash of the feel for the Old West.
lyrics
When we were young, and unafraid.
We felt our lives, were all but made.
From second grade.
And then we walked, your hand in mine.
Kept thinking we had all the time.
And all was fine.
I spent my whole life waiting for the years.
I spent all my strength fighting back these tears.
Before this evening ends, tell me you will be my friend.
Through all the years. Through all the years.
And then we grew. And made new starts.
Our love became, two separate hearts.
And grew apart.
We fought and danced. We laughed and cried.
Considered all we left behind.
And wondered why.
I spent my whole life waiting for the years.
I spent all my strength fighting back these tears.
Before this evening ends, tell me you will be my friend.
Through all the years. Through all the years.
And now we're old. The time has passed.
We always felt, our love would last.
Forget the past. Forget the past.
Cause now it's gone, no going back.
You're stuck with all of your regrets.
Tied to the rack. To the rack.
I spent my whole life waiting for the years.
I spent all my strength fighting back these tears.
Before this evening ends, tell me you will be my friend.
Through all the years. Through all the years.
